Annual General Meeting and Presentation
Interested in connecting with colleagues, hearing updates from MPS, celebrating the research achievements of MPS student members, and learning more about Truth and Reconciliation Commissions' Calls to Action for Psychologists? Then be sure to register for MPS's in person Annual General Meeting (AGM) being held on Thursday March 20 from 5:15 - 8:15 PM at the Best Western Plus, 1715 Wellington Avenue in Winnipeg (doors open at 5:00 PM). Tickets, subsidized for Members, are $50.00. The special student rate for student members of MPS is $25.00.
Dr. John Walker Student Research Award
As part of the AGM, the Board will announce the winner of the prestigious Dr. John Walker Student Research Award. At the AGM, rotating posters will be displayed digitally. Student poster submissions are welcomed up to March 7, 2025, end of day, allowing the jury time to select the winner in advance of the AGM. For more detail about the submission process, please consult the email distributed to our student membership.
Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action for Psychologists
The AGM will be followed by a panel discussion facilitated by the Psychological Association of Manitoba's Truth and Reconciliation Task Force. This discussion and story-based panel will explore the role that mental health professionals, specifically psychologists, play in supporting Indigenous communities and fostering healing through trauma-informed practices. The PAM TRC Task Force will share their journey in creating the Task Force Recommendations. This will include sharing how they reflected on the science and practice of Psychology and the impact on Indigenous peoples, what considerations were had when taking on this momentous task, how they consulted with members of the community, and how they decided on a framework to present recommendations. It is hoped in sharing this journey, psychologists and members of the community will understand the importance of moving forward in partnership with Indigenous peoples and the changes that we can implement in our profession.
Continuing Education Credits
Attendance at psychology association business meetings as well as education events may be considered continuing education credits for registration with the Psychological Association of Manitoba (PAM). Please arrange to complete the verification of attendance form with a colleague if you wish to claim continuing education credits as MPS will not be issuing certificates.
