MPS AGM 2020

Dear MPS Members,

In light of the growing concerns regarding COVID-19 the MPS Board has voted to cancel our March 30, 2020 AGM.  Members who have already registered for this event will receive full refunds.  Annual reports will be sent out to our members later this month.

The Manitoba Psychological Society (MPS) invites you to attend our Annual General Meeting and presentation by Dr. Jeffrey Ansloos.  This event will take place on March 30, 2020 at Inn at the Forks, located in The Forks near the Children’s Museum.

Dr. Jeffrey Ansloos is a Registered Psychologist and Assistant Professor of Counseling and Clinical Psychology and Canada Research Chair in Critical Studies in Indigenous Health and Social Action on Suicide at the University of Toronto.  Dr. Ansloos is Nehiyaw (Cree) and English and is a member of Fisher River Cree Nation (Ochekwi-Sipi; Treaty 5). He was born and raised in the heart of Treaty 1 territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Dr. Ansloos’s presentation is entitled:

Indigenous Mental Health and Life Promotion: Integrating Sociocultural Dimensions into Clinical Care and Suicide Prevention

The following is the schedule for the evening:

4:30 - 5:15 Reception with cash bar, student poster competition for the MPS Dr. John Walker Student Research Award

5:15 - 6:15 Buffet Dinner with presentation of the MPS Dr. John Walker Student Research Award at 6:10pm

6:15 - 7:15 MPS Annual General Meeting over dessert and coffee/tea

7:15 - 8:30 Dr. Ansloos's presentation

The cost for the dinner and presentation, subsidized for Members is $50.00.  The special student rate (for student members of MPS) is $25.00

Attendance at psychology association business meetings as well as at education events may be considered as continuing education credits for registration with P.A.M. Please print and bring the P.A.M. Verification of Attendance form prior to attending if you wish to claim continuing education credits. Attendance at the full AGM and talk is expected to involve up to 2 ½ potential credit hours. MPS will not issue certificates for this event.

Pre-registration is required to attend this event. Please register using the link below (deadline is March 25). We look forward to having you join us on March 30.

The workshops and presentation are not accredited by MPS but may be used for continuing education credits for the purpose of P.A.M. registration renewal. Attendance at professional Psychology meetings, including the Manitoba Psychological Society AGM, may be used for continuing education credits. Please check with P.A.M. for requirements and guidelines for continuing education credits.

If you wish to utilize attendance at this MPS event to accumulate continuing education credits, it is strongly recommended that you print and bring with you the Verification of Attendance form, available from the P.A.M. website.  You can have it signed by the MPS administrative assistant or another attendee as you leave the event.
