A series of Dr. Barth’s lectures for medical academies

Synopsis

Over the course of decades, Dr. Barth has repeatedly been asked to contribute to publications and continuing medical education programs for a wide variety of medical academies. For this workshop, Dr. Barth has taken the information that has previously been prepared for medical academies and customized it specifically for the Manitoba Psychological Society. Issues which will be addressed include:

  • The Dominant Role of Psychological and Social Factors in Medical-Legal Claims of All Types
  • Causation Analysis: Evaluating Claims of Injury-Relatedness, Work-Relatedness, Accident-Relatedness, Etc.
  • Evaluation of Work Ability
  • Scientific Findings Regarding the Risk Factors for Chronic Pain, and Implications for Evaluation
  • Psychological Evaluation as a Method for Protecting Chronic Pain Patients from Harmful Treatments
  • Scientific Findings Regarding Prognosis Following Brain Injury, and Implications for Evaluation
  • Scientific Findings Regarding Human Responses to Traumatic Experiences
  • The American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic System: Methodology, and Obstacles to Scientific Credibility
  • Introduction to the American Medical Association’s Impairment Rating Protocols for Mental Illness, Pain, and Neuropsychological Impairment

Presenter

The American Medical Association has repeatedly listed Dr. Barth among their “internationally recognized expert authors”, and has asked him to contribute to their publications and programming for chronic pain, brain injury, and mental illness. His work for the AMA has included contributing to the Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, and the Guides to the Evaluation of Disease and Injury Causation.

Dr. Barth has been named a Fellow of the National Academy of Neuropsychology, for making “significant contributions to the science and profession of neuropsychology”.

Dr. Barth’s history of full-time education includes:

  • Post-doctoral fellowship, Harvard Medical School program at Massachusetts General Hospital
  • Pre-doctoral internship, Harvard Medical School program at Massachusetts General Hospital
  • Ph.D. in clinical/health psychology, University of South Florida

Dr. Barth currently works in an independent practice.
