Cultural Competency Training Opportunity Exclusively for MPS Members

The federal government has announced that Syrian refugees will be eligible to receive funding for 10 sessions of psychotherapy. Registered clinical psychologists in the province of Manitoba will be paid $150 per hour under a programme that is being administered by Blue Cross / Medavie.

The federal government has announced that Syrian refugees will be eligible to receive funding for 10 sessions of psychotherapy. Registered clinical psychologists in the province of Manitoba will be paid $150 per hour under a programme that is being administered by Blue Cross / Medavie.

In order to equip our members to offer such services, MPS is sponsoring a 6-hour workshop on Cultural Competency. The workshop will be facilitated by the Islamic Social Services Association (ISSA), and will focus on the cultural background and mental health needs of Syrian refugees. It is strongly recommended that anyone interested in serving this population take this workshop.

Date: February 5, 2016
Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cost: $50
Venue: Canadian Red Cross, 1111 Portage Avenue

In the weeks to come, MPS will be providing members with more information about the federal benefits for refugees. In the meantime, we hope to see you at the Cultural Competency workshop.
